Lovely Lemon Oil! Perfect for DIY!

I am having so much learning all about essential oils and what I can do with them!  I can't wait to share more posts with DIY tips!

But first, I need to introduce the company that really got me hooked: Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals!
Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals is based in California.  Their focus is on creating the highest quality botanicals, including essential oils, carrier oils, clays, toners, and serums.

I thoroughly enjoyed the quality and usefulness of Majestic Pure's Peppermint Oil earlier this month!  So, I was very excited about reviewing their Lemon Oil to compliment it!

This 100% Pure & Natural, Therapeutic Grade Lemon Oil has a pleasant aroma that will fill a room, making it perfect for aromatherapy!

I found a great DIY tutorial for a homemade diffuser recipe!  This blogger calls for Mineral Oil, Vodka, Essential Oil, Glass Jar & Reeds.  I substituted rubbing alcohol for the vodka, as other bloggers suggested, and it works wonderfully!  I'm very anxious while working on my comprehensive exams, and this light scent in the apartment helps me feel calm & focused.
Lemon Oil has several other uses as well!  I'm always impressed what I find when I search for blog posts on essential oil uses.  They seem to be limitless in their abilities to be amazing!

For example, I added some to my shampoo one morning when my hair felt especially gross to cut the grease and product build-up.  Worked like a charm!
Lemon Oil also works wonders as a cleaning agent!

A tip from one of my DIY friends was to add a few drops to Baking Soda + Dish Soap to make your own bathroom scrub.  It worked really well!

You can find Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals' 100% Pure & Natural Lemon Oil on Amazon for $14.95 for 4 fl oz!  After doing some hunting online, I'll say that I think this is a very generous amount for such a great price!

Verdict: Yay!

Sweet Scentbird ~ January!

I really am a huge fan of Scentbird!  This month I received Gucci's Guilty Intense.  Its very different from something I would normally purchase for myself, but I really like it!

The main notes are: Pink Pepper, Lilac, Amber, Mandarin Orange, and Patchouli.

Scentbird categorizes this scent with the following labels: Sexy, Party, Sweet!

For $14.95, Scentbird sends you a new designer fragrance every month, and your selection is completely customizable!  They have a fantastic survey that helps them make the best suggestions for you, but you are not limited to those options only!

To try it for yourself, I'd love it if you used my referral link

Tasty Treats + Pleased Puppy = Happy Home!

Hi! My name is Barley, and I am so excited to be publishing my debut doggy product review!

I wasn't too sure about lying next to this tub of treats, but my person was extremely persuasive.  And those treats are really tasty, so eventually I gave in.

Steward Pro-Treat sent me this huge tub of 100% Pure Pork Liver Treats for Dogs for me to taste and review on my person's blog.

My three favorite things are cuddles, walks, and FOOD!  I really enjoy my tasty dog food.  But what gets me really excited are great tasting treats!  I love it when my humans use treats for training, trick shows, and to reward me for going on good walks . . . you know, those times when I don't chase the neighborhood cats, skate boarders, or motorcycles!

My favorite thing about these treats is that they are delicious and easy to eat!  I also like that there are no grains in these treats, since grains make me itchy.  I am excited that the package is so big!  It means I'll enjoy these treats for a while!

My humans' favorite things about Stewart Pro-Treat is that they have no additives or preservatives.  Plus, they are rich in protein, which makes me feel great!

You can find these wonderful treats on Amazon (affiliate link) for $19 for a generous 12 oz!

Puppy's Verdict: A Tail Wagging Beg!

Jammin' with Jamberry Nails!

In the blogging world, its all about connections, right?

Well, I was thrilled when one of my hall-mates from college reached out to me to do a review of Jamberry.  She is a fantastic Jamberry Consultant, and I couldn't wait to test and review Jamberry Nail Wraps!

Special thanks to Frances Barna for sponsoring this review!

Frances sent me this totally fantastic nail set to review!  Everything we need to do our nails is included in this beautiful bag!  So, let's get to it!

To start, we clean off our nails with the alcohol prep pad.  This will help ensure that our nail wraps stay in place!

Next, select the nail wrap that best fits the cuticle line and width of the nail.  Before applying to the nail, make sure you warm up the nail wrap using your hair dryer - that particular shot was beyond my ability during this project! :-)

Once its in place, press firmly on the nail wrap.

Then, trim the wrap to the length of the nail.

Using the cuticle stick, smooth out the nail wrap onto the nail.  This will help ensure that the nail wrap bonds with your entire nail.

Finally, file down the nail wrap along the nail's edge using a nail file.

Repeat these steps for each nail, and then, All Done!!

My favorite things about Jamberry!

1. They are really easy to apply!  Its nearly impossible to really mess these little babies up, which is fantastic!
2. No smell!  Hubby usually comments on the smell of the nail polish/ remover from the moment he walks in the door.

3. No mess!  I didn't have to worry about spilling nail polish or remover.  I didn't have to worry about smudging my new nail-do on something.

4. Easily Interruptible!  While I don't have kids, I can imagine that Jamberry is perfect for mothers.  I could stop after any particular nail and take care of whatever was going on at home without fear of the dangers of wet nails!

5. They're beautiful!  I love all of the designs!  They're versatile, beautiful, and low maintenance for a truly fantastic look!

6. They last a long time!  These nail wraps lasted me 7 days before I really needed to change them.  I didn't alter my cleaning, typing, dog walking routine, and they endured all of it without chipping!

7. One sheet stretches very far, see!

Verdict: Yippee!  Yay!

If you are interested in exploring Jamberry for yourself, I highly recommend working with Frances.  You can also connect with her on Facebook.  She's responsible, fun, and generally wonderful woman!

Right now, her site has a fantastic Buy 3, Get 1 Free Deal!

PLUS, for all of you subscription addicts out there, Jamberry now has a monthly Stylebox that I know you'll love!

Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Peppermint Essential Oil

While researching various skin care product ingredients for product reviews, I continually run across suggestions for DIY skin care and aromatherapy products to make at home.  So, when Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals offered me an opportunity to try out their 100% Pure & Natural Peppermint Oil Extract, I was thrilled!

I love that Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals is a local company, which is located here in California.  They work with businesses all over the world to source their products.  Their essential oils are always 100% pure and natural.  Additionally, they emphasize ethics and responsibility in their business practices, especially regarding ecological impacts.  Finally, they guarantee that their products are fresh, and never stored for long periods of time in warehouses before reaching customers.

This 100% Pure & Natural Peppermint Extract is extracted from the leaves, flowers and buds of the Mentha Piperita.  This plant is a hybrid mint; it is a cross between spearmint and watermint.  The essential oil has a strong peppermint aroma, a thin consistency, and is clear with a slightly yellow tinge.

For use in aromatherapy, this Peppermint Essential Oil is definitely appropriately potent!  Just opening the bottle for the first time, it smells like one has opened a portal to a field of fresh peppermint with freshly fallen rain.  Heavenly!

I am still learning how to incorporate this wonderful product into my daily life.  My current favorite use for this product is in the shower.  The strong mint scent awakens the senses and the mind so I add a few drops to my shampoo during my morning shower.  It makes my scalp tingly clean! (Peppermint Oil is known to help with any dandruff problems.)  And it helps wake me up and get me going for the day!  (Another known benefit of peppermint in aromatherapy!)  This has been so beneficial that I can't wait to find more uses for this wonderful essential oil!

You can find Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals 100% Pure & Natural Peppermint Essential Oil on Amazon for $18.50 for 4 fl oz!  Based on what I've seen for costs of other essential oils in much smaller bottles, this is a great deal!

Verdict: Yay!

January's Moustache!

No, I'm not growing a moustache!  I'm talking about the most amazing Coffee Subscription Box on the planet, Moustache Coffee Club!

Each month I get a box of the most amazing single origin roasted coffee beans I could imagine!

This month's bag was roasted by the Lord Windsor Roasters.  The beans were roasted on 12/23, and I received them on 12/27!  Wow!

These magnificent little gems originated in the Kivu, Rutsiro District in Rwanda, and were produced by Kigeyo Washing Station.  They grew at 1800-2000 meters. They are Bourbon varietals and were processed by washing.  (I have very little idea what any of this means, but I'll learn eventually!)

What most interests me is that Moustache Coffee Club always includes the tasting notes for each bag of coffee they send to customers.  The tasting notes of this month's bag were: Caramel, Sweet Raisin, Sparkling Acidity.

Aka: Amazing!

The best smell ever!  Freshly roasted coffee!

I love the varieties of coffee I receive from Moustache Coffee Club.  They offer a number of subscription options as well as a free 1 oz. sample of their amazing product!  You can order your coffee beans whole or ground.  (I get whole, because I love my French Press!)

My Thoughts on January's Birchboxes!

I definitely scored with each of my Birchboxes this month!  I'm so happy about my little novice accident that happened last fall since it is why I now have two accounts, and two boxes/ month!  (I love this so much I can't imagine getting only one box anymore!)

The Neil George Shampoo & Conditioner have a wonderful minty scent.  The shampoo must be sulfate-free because it really doesn't lather up, at all!  But my hair felt noticeably cleaner, which is great.  The conditioner performs very well, too!  For $9 for the full-size products, these items fit my budget much better than the Davines shampoo & conditioner samples I've gotten before.

I was sadly disappointed with Harvey Prince's Hello Liquid Loofah.  Apparently it's supposed to lather, but I just couldn't get it to lather very well.  I don't have hard water, so I don't know what happened.  I hate the feeling that I did something wrong to make a product perform poorly!  I did get clean though. :-)

Perlier's Intensive Nurturing Body Balm smells so good!  The Lavender is perfect.  It also feels amazing!  This is a great sized sample so I put it on my legs and feet after my shower; ooo!  hours later they still feel great!

The Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner continues to make me a happy camper!  I forgot how much I love this Jauper Gold color.  Its so easy to apply, which is also great!

I put on Christian Siriano's Fragrance Silhouette.  It has a lovely light, feminine scent that perfect for an adult woman; great balance!

Finally, I think I've found my new BB cream!  Dr. Jart+ BB Cream rocked my world this morning when I applied it with my Beauty Blender.  I'm a convert, and I can't wait to use my Birchbox points for this little delight!

Manna Kadar's Lip Locked in All of Me is AMAZING!  Okay, if this is what lip stains are supposed to be, sign me up!  This is the perfect shade of mauve-y pink that compliments my skin tone, goes perfectly with Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette, and lasts all day!

Finally, I used my Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper Gel today.  I'm really happy with how it performed; I know my hair looks a little flat here, but that's mostly because I tried a different hair thickening treatment on my roots than I usually use (apparently Roux beats Clarol's Hair Food).  Anyway, the curl has held all day.  I haven't been the victim of frizz or crunchy hair, so this is going on the TO-BUY list ASAP!

*     *     *     *

With Birchbox you get five fabulous samples each month ($10).  Plus, you have the opportunity to earn points to buy goodies for yourself (100 pts = $10 & you can earn 60 pts/month for free!).  Why not pamper yourself and subscribe to Birchbox?  You can check them out here (referral link)!

*     *     *     *

I tried a different review format for this post than I usually do.  I included Instagram photos and pictures of me wearing the products.  What did you think of this review?  Is it more interesting than usual or not?  Better or worse than other Birchbox review posts?  I'd love feedback from you, my readers, so that I can continue to improve!  Thanks in advance!

Rocksbox Unboxing!

I've been wanting to try Rocksbox, so when I scored a code for a free month, I couldn't wait to cash in and make an unboxing video!  I think that Rocksbox is a fantastic concept for a subscription box!  I love the idea of trying out different jewelry collections with the option to buy with a 20% discount.

The jewelry is very nice quality, and arrives attractively packaged.  I received one ring, one necklace, and one pair of earrings, which is perfect given my answers on the style quiz.

I will also admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the free necklace included in my first box; its so sweet!

I'll admit that if I had the $46, I'd totally splurge on the amazing geometric ring!  The other two pieces are nice, but I wouldn't go for buying them at Rockbox's prices.

Overall, if you want to experiment with some different types of jewelry before investing in new looks - whether its through Rocksbox or elsewhere, I think that Rocksbox is a totally fun way to do exactly that.

However, for $19/month, I think I'd rather just buy myself a new piece of jewelry for my collection! :-)

Verdict: Meh, but a happy Meh!

Christmas Socks. Worried Grandpa. Cold Feet.

I love silly wonderful Christmas Socks.

They remind me I have so much to be grateful for in life.  I am loved.  I have a home.  I have food in the pantry and in the fridge.  And, my feet are warm.

My feet are toasty warm in my cozy socks.

This might seem a bit random, but really, this moment of gratitude reaches back into one of my most precious childhood memories, spreads through middle school, and stretches all the way into this moment in time.

*     *     *     *

As a little girl, I absolutely adored my Grandpa.  He was one of those old men who had been rough around the edges as a father (or so I'm told) and whose heart started melting when his first granddaughter came along (me!).

From Left to Right: Grandpa (W.O. Caster), my cousin (Katie Caster), and me (Suzanne).  We are making my Grandpa's infamous ginger snaps after a morning swim in the pool. (Statesboro, GA)

I loved this man so much.  When my Dad and I would visit on the weekends, I would try to make sure that I woke up as early in the morning as I possibly could.  Because, if I got up early enough, I would catch my Grandpa in the swimming pool.  He only swam in the mornings, and I loved spending time with him while he swam his laps.  I would slip my swimsuit, which was usually damp & cold from the day before, onto my sleepy little body, and run out to spend time in the cool morning water with my Grandpa.

Later in the day, I would scamper through my grandparents' tile-floor house barefoot every season of the year.  And, invariably, mid-skip, right in front of my grandpa, I would sneeze.

AAACCCHOOO! (because I sneeze like my Daddy)

And he would say, with a slight grump in his voice, "Go put on some socks!"  I, being the precociously happy child I was then, would giggle and say, "Grandpa, it was just a tickle in my nose!"  I would then continue my skip, skittering off on whatever mission I was on in that particular moment without a second thought.  My dad would tell me that Grandpa would just blink a little, and go back to whatever he was working on, not quite sure what to do with me.

*     *     *     *

Now, when Hubby and I moved to Chicago in 2008, I knew that winter would be cold.  But I really had no idea.  My Dad tried to warn me; he spent his childhood in Minneapolis. . . .

I. Had. No. Idea.

SO. COLD.

We scored a beautiful two bedroom apartment with hardwood floors.  What we didn't know until winter set in was that our apartment had basically no insulation.

My desk sat in front of a window.  I loved my window.  For the three years we lived there, I watched the tree outside growing and changing with the seasons.  I saw the snow flurries in winter and listened to the birds sing in the spring.

But I also FROZE in that freaking icebox.  The baseboard heater didn't work.  The hardwood floors felt like ice.  And, to top it all off, my adorable window leaked in cold air like a sad bicycle tire.

And then, the sneezing started.  This wasn't any sneezing I had experienced before.  This was not some "tickle in nose" silly sneeze from south Georgia.  This was uncontrollable, multi-sneeze attacks that just rocked my entire body.

In the midst of one of these horrid sneezing fits, my grandpa's voice rang in my ears.  "GO PUT ON SOME SOCKS!"  I was certain that the wonderful man I had lost many years before made sure that his granddaughter would be prepared for this moment.  All those "grumpy" moments of fussing at me and my giggling at him paid off.

I ran to the other room, pulled out the fluffiest pair of socks I owned and put them on.

RELIEF!

The sneezing stopped.  My body suddenly felt warmer.  This was my first step to learning how to survive Chicago winters.

Bragging Rights: I have one of the most amazing stepmothers in the entire world.  She's so wonderful I call her, "My Wanda."  I really hate the word "stepmom," and I only use it so that the rest of world will understand how she is related to the rest of my life.

My Dad and My Wanda dancing at my wedding.  Aren't they adorably happy?

My Wanda believes in the power of family traditions, new and old.  And let me tell you, My Wanda loves Christmas.

I spent years tirelessly decorating for Christmas with this crazy woman and my sweet daddy.  We'd decorate more Christmas trees than any one house has any right to have.  Daddy would spend a week prepping the most amazing Christmas Eve dinner your tastebuds can imagine.  And then, with a twinkle in her, My Wanda would gather us all around the tree to open our one Christmas Eve present: Pajamas!

We would promptly scamper off to change into our PJs and then eat our fabulous Christmas Eve feast in our new pajamas!

Well, this is not My Wanda's only fantastically silly family tradition.  She also puts the silliest, fluffiest socks in everyone's Christmas Stocking!

So, that infamous day in Chicago when I skittered off to put on socks, the pair I grabbed were from my Christmas stocking the year before.  My Wanda ensuring that my tootsies would be warm when I finally listened to my Grandpa and put on some socks . . . because I sneezed.
